This new exhibition by the group Quilt Art is dedicated to the themes of memory and the creative power of stitches. The artists were inspired by the living and textile arts of Mary Fogg, a founding member of the group who died in 2016 at the age of 95. Quilt Art, the first of its kind in Europe, was founded in the UK in 1985 to promote quilting as an art form. The 19 members are all leading professionals who exhibit nationally and internationally. For all artists, the quilt as a cultural artefact with its unique aesthetic properties forms the starting point for their extremely different interpretations, which do not necessarily correspond to the traditional definition of a “quilt”.
